Longganisa Festival is one of the four major festivals of Vigan City. This is celebrated to honor St. Paul the Apostle. During January 18-28, numerous events are being held in different parts of Vigan. There are a lot of noteworthy occasions to witness during the city fiesta. Education Night and Street Dancing Showdown Competition are two of them.
Education Night or Educators Night is a really fun event to
attend. I watched teachers from different schools and clusters showcasing their talents. Singing, dancing, fire bending, cheer dancing, and many more are displayed during these event. There are also awards for teachers and schools to acknowledge their excellency in different areas. Bigueno Teacher of the Year is the most prestigious award that a teacher or educator can receive. The winners are rewarded with a certain amount of money.
Aside from that, I also went to observe the Vigan Street Dancing Competition. It is one of the most awaited event during the fiesta. The street dancing started and all of the contestants showcased the main product of Vigan which is longganisa. I watched as they dance smoothly with platter full of longganisa and outfits made from Abel Iloko. After that, the competition is not yet finished because up next is the Showdown. The performers danced and gave their all, and in the end, San Nicolas National High School and University of Northern Philippines bagged the victory in their respective category.
It was great to experience this kind of festivals. The events showed culture and beliefs of Ilokanos and I am amazed to its beauty. I can't fully describe how amusing the town fiesta is. The Longganisa Festival is something worthwhile, so visit and be astonished as you experience the wonders of Vigan City Festival. Viva Vigan!
